SAN RAMON, CA – (January 15, 2021) – ARC Facilities, a leading technology company in the built space, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has allowed two patents that are directed to systems and methods for optimizing data transfers and synchronization of information, both processes that enable ARC Facilities’ solution for accessing critical building information.

The newly allowed patents reflect the innovative nature of ARC Facilities technology, which extracts building intelligence from construction plans without human intervention and delivers it to facilities professionals on-demand through mobile devices. Such information has historically been cumbersome to retrieve since it is most often stored in hard copy documents in centralized repositories or on outdated desktop systems. Instant access to critical building information on mobile devices transforms facilities management in every vertical including healthcare, education, public utilities and commercial real estate.

The ARC Facilities technology team, led by Chief Technology Officer Rahul Roy, created the new developments behind the patents.

“The technology is built around two specific segments that address the efficiency and handling of large data sets used to manage buildings, campuses, hospitals, and other facilities,” said Mr. Roy. “Our customers are often working far away from stable digital infrastructure, using networks that are often constrained or even intermittent. The IP we developed makes digital transfers and synchronization more adaptable when consistent bandwidth is compromised.”

Facilities professionals often work in multiple buildings, sometimes across large campuses, school districts, towns or even large geographical regions. Lack of immediate access to critical building information is often cited as the cause for delays to maintenance schedules and important repairs, as well as for allowing simple accidents to become catastrophes.

“Decades of experience in distributing construction documents and managing building information has allowed Rahul and our R&D team to develop technology that transforms how building information is accessed,” said CEO, Suri Suriyakumar. “With a system that is intelligent enough to augment expertise, able to learn what information is most important and offer it on demand regardless of location, facilities professionals can make buildings safer, more productive, and more cost-effective to operate.”

About ARC Facilities:

ARC Facilities designs and develops powerful and intuitive apps to deliver critical building information to facilities professionals on mobile devices such as phones or tablets. A simple swipe and a few taps allow users to view building plans for routine maintenance and handle emergencies within seconds. (NYSE: ARC), a leading document solutions provider to design, engineering, and construction professionals, today released an e-book containing insights from its 2019 Design and Construction Technology Survey. The e-book, available on the company website, explores responses from more than 300 design and construction companies on why productivity isn’t improving in the industry despite the wide availability of technology solutions designed to help.

none

Key takeaways highlighted in the e-book include:

  • 40% of respondents are using four or more software platforms to manage their workflow
  • Data silos, redundant data input, and stand-alone spreadsheets are the top killers of project productivity
  • 62% of respondents feel that their project managers do not have time to proactively address issues
  • More than 40% of respondents claimed that their teams have underutilized the capabilities of their project management software and overpaid for it

“Our customers were generous with their time, willing to go deep, and transparent about the issues they face. As a result, their responses are insightful and actionable,” said Kumar Wiratunga, Vice President of Technology Solutions for ARC Document Solutions. “That spirit of cooperation was the primary reason why we developed the e-book. Construction is an inherently collaborative effort, so identifying common challenges, developing solutions, and sharing ideas for productivity improvements benefits everyone in the industry.”

Survey Methodology

In January 2019, ARC Document Solutions distributed “The ARC 2019 Design and Construction Technology Survey” to AEC industry professionals in markets all across North America using an online survey. Respondents replied from organizations that ranged in size from $2 million to more than $200 million in sales, and included architects, contractors and trade professionals. The new sustainability program, called “Print & Plant,” encourages ARC ARC Document Solutions Worldwide Reforestation Effortscustomers to help plant a new tree for every “tree’s worth” of paper used in their office printers.

“Print & Plant is an inexpensive, easy and environmentally-responsible donation-matching program,” said Dilo Wijesuriya, Chief Operating Officer for ARC. “The overwhelming

majority of our customers are concerned with protecting the environment, and they recognize that the printing they do, while necessary, has an impact on the world around them. Our program collects a tax-free donation as small as 50 cents, adds a matching donation from ARC, and uses the money to plant trees in certified reforestation programs around the world. It’s a ‘do-good and feel-good’ initiative, and we’re proud to be kicking it off with our customers.”

Print & Plant

On average, a tree produces 8,333 sheets of paper. That’s the magic number for ARC’s donation-matching program. Here’s how it works:

  • ARC tracks the paper use of each participating customer and issues a donation invoice each month based on consumption.
  • For every 8,333 sheets of paper printed, a customer can donate 50 cents or one dollar.
  • ARC matches the donation, and forwards it to their tree-planting partner, One Tree Planted.
  • The non-profit organization plants a tree for every dollar it receives, so donations fund the planting of one or two trees for every “tree’s worth” of paper consumed by an ARC customer.

Customers receive materials from ARC and from One Tree Planted to help them spread the word about their environmental stewardship, and reforestation projects around the world benefit from the donations.

For more than a decade ARC has engaged in sustainability initiatives throughout the company’s nationwide network of service centers, and in thousands of customer locations. From transforming old construction plans into high-end note pads, collecting and reusing paper roll cores, promoting and using paper that contains high volumes of recycled content, and simply installing energy efficient lighting and equipment in their facilities, each initiative has been designed to support or local or regional operation.

“We’ve always tried to do our part to help conserve our natural environment, and through One Tree Planted, we’ve already planted 5,000 trees ourselves,” said Mr. Wijesuriya. “But this is the first time we’ve been able to engage our entire customer base to help. With more than 90,000 customers, the potential impact is enormous.”

Its new conversion centers and cloud hosting infrastructure are now available to customers nationwide who require legally compliant digital transformation of documents that contain Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Due to the strict security required for the storage of physical documents containing protected information – including 24/7 video surveillance of dedicated document rooms where they are stored – the demand for digital conversion is high and extends far beyond the healthcare industry.

“While the common understanding of protected health information assumes that protected data is only present in health records, documents that contain PHI can be found in a large variety of businesses and document types.” said Kumar Wiratunga, ARC’s Vice President of Technology Solutions. “Considering our extensive experience in archiving, records management and cloud services, a HIPAA-compliant solution to assist our customers in document conversion was a natural development for us.”ARC Document Solutions Worldwide Reforestation Efforts

ARC manages protected information in documents such as human resources and finance records, student records, permitting and certification documents, travel and transportation files, disability documentation, workers comp information and more. Physical documents containing protected information are secured inside ARC’s HIPAA-compliant service centers while they are being scanned, converted and posted to a proprietary cloud platform.

“Most of our customers want to move away from paper and so-called ‘digital landfills’ of unstructured data,” said Wiratunga. “Documents that can be used on the cloud are more sustainable, offer better access management, and improve security and data privacy. But our customers with PHI were really struggling to find a solution that delivered a turnkey document conversion and cloud solution. We were delighted to discover how we could help by leveraging our existing infrastructure and foundation for document security into this new market.”

For more information about how ARC helps you manage your protected information, visit HIPAA Compliance, or visit ARC’s blog to delve deeper into PHI and ePHI. To contact ARC about its HIPAA-compliant records management solution, call (855) 500-0660.

ARC delivers more than 120,000 black-and-white and color print jobs a month, including architecture drawings, close-out packages, construction signage, office graphics, marketing binders, and more for its 90,000 customers.

“Our customers are increasingly mobile, working everywhere and anywhere, and they still use a great deal of print,” said Dilo Wijesuriya, Chief Operating Officer of ARC. “Email is by far the most popular way of sending a job to a service center, but it’s also the most cumbersome. The new ARC Print app makes it easy for customers on the go to find a service center, order printed work from wherever they are, track a job’s progress in real time, and arrange for delivery wherever the documents are needed.”

December 17, 2018 | San Ramon, CA – Survey data in the newly released Facilities Technology Trends & Buying Best Practicesreport shows a nearly unanimous (99%) belief of facilities decision-makers that the importance and use of technology will only continue to grow. Released by ARC Document Solutions (NYSE: ARC), the industry research reports insights into the evaluation and acquisition of technology that facilities teams use to meet operating objectives.

According to survey respondents, the top four most valued technology tools are emergency & life safety (69%), communications or collaborations (63%), work order or ticketing (60%), and mobile productivity apps (59%).

Facilities leaders agree that increasing productivity and delivering higher levels of customer service are the top two drivers for choosing the types of technology tools to purchase. Survey results indicate a significant opportunity for improving productivity by adopting mobile technology solutions.
Facilities Survey Reveals Technology

“We expected the research to confirm that buying technology tools to increase productivity and deliver higher levels of customer service are top priorities,” said ARC Facilities executive vice president, Brian Bailard. “We didn’t expect to discover such a significant opportunity to improve productivity – that teams could complete up to 30% more work orders by using a mobile solution.”

Large facilities teams (25 or more team members) purchase nearly twice as much technology (10 or more annually) as small teams. Surprisingly, larger budgets is not cited as the reason; both large and small teams face similar challenges in purchasing tech. Five factors emerged as the keys to successfully buying tech, including ease of use, a pilot, mobile capability, and involving both IT and the budget approver in the product evaluation.

Data for this research was compiled from responses to a survey conducted in September 2018 of 229 U.S.-based facilities decision-makers who have purchased technology within the last three years. The goal of the research was to understand the priorities, drivers, barriers, and best practices to using and purchasing technology tools to optimize facilities management and operations.

October 2, 2018 | San Ramon, CA – As the role and responsibilities of facilities teams continues to expand, their reliance on sophisticated—yet easy-to-use—mobile technology is magnified. To support this increasing focus on technology, ARC Document Solutions (NYSE: ARC) has launched the next generation of its cloud-based ARC Facilities Platform, which stores building-specific documents that are linked, searchable and accessible instantly by facilities teams from their ARC Mobile Facilities Dashboards.

The ARC Facilities Platform offers four individual dashboards that address specific use cases of facilities teams:

  • ARC Buildings
  • ARC Emergency
  • ARC Equipment
  • ARC Compliance

ARC Buildings Dashboard

The ARC Facilities Platform is designed to increase productivity and customer service levels, while also reducing costs by eliminating information search time that slows down the completion of work orders and other tasks. Emergency responsiveness is also improved when facilities teams can access emergency plans and share essential building information via their mobile devices.

“When customers see their own building information on an iPad® or mobile phone for the first time, organized in

Generation Mobile Facilities Platform

dashboards, they immediately recognize that it will transform the way they manage and operate their buildings,” said ARC executive vice president, Brian Bailard. “Enthusiasm is visible on their faces and they immediately begin to anticipate the improved levels of productivity and customer service, which according to 226 respondents to an ARC survey in September 2018, are the top two reasons facilities managers purchase technology.”
